ABFT Propagation Project

In 2018, TunaTech GmbH of Germany teamed with MFF to carry out a three year project on tuna restocking. This project was funded by Mars GmbH Germany and consisted of performing molecular analysis on the individual broodstock and their eggs, along with pilot experiments for monitoring egg fertilisation, hatching rates and yolk-sac larvae survival after incubation, both in the sea conditions and in the laboratory. It was estimated that approximately 75 million DNA-tagged larvae were released back into the sea through this project.
